 ‘SWATI’ Portal Launched

  • The Indian National Science Academy in New Delhi hosted the opening of the "Science for Women-A Technology and Innovation (SWATI) Portal" on February 11, 2024.
  •  It was inaugurated by Professor Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Advisor.
  • Professor Sood stated that the SWATI Portal's database will be used to inform policy decisions aimed at addressing the problems associated with the gender gap.
  • The National Institute of Plant Genome Research (NIPGR), located in New Delhi, develops, hosts, and maintains the Portal, an interactive database that is the first of its type in India.
  • The portal's goal is to establish a unified online platform that represents Indian women and girls who pursue careers in STEM fields—science, technology, engineering, math, and medicine.
  • To enable trustworthy and statistically meaningful long-term research, portal aims to scale up the endeavor to include every Indian woman in science, across all career phases and fields.

Chennai Open ATP Challenger 2024

  • Sumit Nagal, the leading singles player in India, defeated Italian Luca Nardi in the Chennai Open final on February 11, 2024, to win his fifth Challenger-level singles title.
  • Nagal entered in the top 100 rankings because of his triumph. Nagal has become the first Indian since Prajnesh Gunneswaran in 2019 to enter the singles top-100 with this accomplishment.
  • India will host an ATP Challenger 100 tournament series, the first of which is the Chennai Open.
  •  As the 2024 season gets off; Nagal has had a stellar showing. He beat top-30 player Alexander Bublik in the opening round of the Australian Open, earning a spot in the main event.

 

Li Ning Sri Lanka International Badminton Challenge 2024

  • Khelo India athletes won the Li Ning Sri Lanka International Badminton Challenge 2024 on February 11, 2024.
  • From February 5 to 11, 2024, the Li Ning International Badminton Challenge was held in Galle by the Sri Lanka Badminton Association.
  • Over 200 participants from 14 different countries performed the challenge.
