National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) appointed new members

  • Ministry of Corporate Affairs appointed 24 new members including 11 judicial and 13 technical members for NCLT on January 7, 2025.
  • Members will hold office for a period of five years or until they become sixty-five, whichever comes first.
  • Reena Sinha Puri and Siddharth Mishra are Technical Members, and Justice Jyotsna Sharma and Sunil Kumar Aggarwal are Judicial Members.
  • New appointments aim to decrease case pendency under the Companies Act of 2013 and Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC).
  • NCLT, established on June 1, 2016, is a quasi-judicial body that resolves business disputes and serves as IBC's adjudicating authority.

  • Public administration, defence, and services are expected to grow by 9.1%, up from 7.8% last year and agriculture by 3.8%.
  • Manufacturing GVA is expected to decline from 9.9% in 2023-2024 to 5.3% in 2024-2025, while mining and quarrying increase by 2.9%.
  • Gross Fixed Capital Formation (GFCF) is projected to grow by 6.4% in 2024-2025, a decrease from 9% growth in 2023-2024.

Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February 5

  • On February 5, 2025, a single phase of voting is going to take place for 70-member Delhi Assembly, with a count set for February 8 as Election Commission of India (ECI) decleared on January 7, 2025.
  • In addition, on February 5, 2025, byelections will be also held for Milkipur seat in Uttar Pradesh and Erode Assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu.
  • Nominations must be submitted by January 17, withdrawals by January 20, and entire electoral process will end by February 10, 2025.
  • The current Delhi Assembly term will conclude on February 23, 2025.
  • Delhi's 1.55 crore voters include 83.49 lakh men, 71.74 lakh women, 1261 transgender and 2.08 lakh first-time voters.
  • Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is running for a third Consecutive term in Delhi, having secured 62 out of 70 seats in the 2020 Assembly elections.
