Overview

The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) conducts the RRB Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) Exam to fill various auxiliary posts in the Indian Railways. The posts are--- Junior Clerk cum Typist, Accounts Clerk cum Typist, Junior Time Keeper, Trains Clerk, Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Traffic Assistant, Goods Guard, Senior Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Senior Clerk cum Typist, Junior Account Assistant cum Typist, Senior Time Keeper, Commercial Apprentice, Station Master.

Selection Process

The recruitment process involves 1st Stage Computer Based Test (CBT), 2nd Stage Computer Based Test (CBT), Typing Skill Test/Computer Based Aptitude Test (as applicable) and Document Verification/Medical Examination.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualifications

  • For Under Graduate Posts: 12th (+2 Stage) or its equivalent with not less than 50% marks in the aggregate.
  • For Graduate Posts: Degree from recognized University or its equivalent.

Age  Limit

  • Under Graduate Level : 18-30 years 
  • Graduate Level: 18-33 years

Typing Skill Test (TST)   The candidates should be able to type 30 words per minute (WPM) in English or 25 WPM in Hindi on Personal Computer only without editing tools and spell check facility.  

Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)  Only for candidates who have opted for Traffic Assistant and Station Master

Document Verification   Based on the performance of candidates in 2nd Stage CBT and based on the performance of candidates in both 2nd Stage CBT and CBAT/TST (as applicable), candidates equal to the number of vacancies will be called for Document Verification as per their merit and options.

The steps to download the admit card of RRB NTPC are explained below:

  • Visit the official websites of respective RRBs
  • Click the link 'Download RRB NTPC E-Call Letter'
  • Enter the user ID (registration number) and password (date of birth)
  • RRB admit card for NTPC exam appears on the screen
  • Download RRB NTPC admit card and take its printout

To download the RRB NTPC result, candidates can follow the steps given below :  

  • Visit the official website of the Railway Recruitment Board.
  • Click on the links of regional RRB boards as shown in the image below
  • Click on the RRB NTPC result link provided on the homepage of the respective board
  • Use Ctrl+ F and enter the roll number in the RRB NTPC result PDF file to see qualifying status.
  • Download NTPC result PDF for future reference.

Answer Key

The candidates can check the RRB NTPC  Answer Key by following the below-mentioned steps : 

  • Visit the official website of the RRB for which you have applied.
  • Click on the notification reading- "CEN-01/2019 (NTPC Posts) - Link for viewing of Tentative CBT 2 Answer Key & Response Sheet."
  • A login page will be displayed on the screen.
  • Enter your Registration Number and Date of Birth as a password to check the Answer Key.
  • You will find two tabs: Candidate Details and candidates’ responses.
  • Click on the ‘Candidates response’ tab to check the RRB NTPC Answer Key and the response made by you for every question.
  • Click on “To download your question paper for the Assessment RRB NTPC exam. Click here to generate it.”
  • Your answer key will appear on your screen with all your details and questions answered to you along with the correct answer.
  • To save the answer key, click on Print >> Save PDF for future reference. 

Preparation Tips

  • Practice Previous Years’ Question Papers    Questions asked in RRB NTPC exam are based more or less on the previous years’ question paper pattern. Solve as many question papers as you can to understand the pattern, concept of each topic as well as the difficulty level.
  • More Practice     Practice enough number of questions from every topic. When you practice more than, there is quite often a chance that you get a similar type of question in the exam. So, you will be able to solve those questions easily and in lesser time.
  • Cultivate Reading Habit    Try to develop reading habits such as newspapers or monthly magazines. This will help you to develop good vocabulary and a better understanding of the events.
  • Learn Formulas     Learn all the formulas and steps to solve various problems at your fingertips. Practice and revise them regularly.
  • Time Management      Time management is very important in qualifying the exam with a high score. Solve questions in a time-bound manner. Try to solve the question paper in less than the time allotted.
  • Speed and Accuracy     You must work on how to maintain a balance between speed and accuracy. This can be achieved with regular practice of question papers/sample papers and mock tests.
  • Revision      Do not forget to revise the topics that you have learnt for the exam. Identify the weak and strong areas and chalk out preparation tips for the exam. Revision helps in making certain topics clear which were not earlier when you had studied at an earlier stage of preparation.  
  • Attempt Mock Tests    Mock tests are like actual tests and it will help you to understand the overall exam pattern. Besides, it builds your confidence of solving questions, accuracy, speed and time-management skills.

The application process is given below:

  • Go to the official website.
  • Choose the 'New Registration' link.
  • Decide which RRB you want to apply to.
  • After the preliminary registration is complete and a registration number is assigned, RRB cannot be changed once it has been chosen.
  • Check the box to show that you understood and read the directions clearly.
  • When registering, enter your name, date of birth, parents' names, Aadhaar number, SSLC/Matric roll number, passing year, mobile number, and email address.
  • Make sure and confirm that all the information provided in the application form is accurate before submitting it for registration.
  • A One Time Password (OTP) will be used during the online application process to verify the email and mobile number.

Is there minimum qualifying marks in RRB NTPC exam?

Yes, there is a minimum qualifying cut off in RRB NTPC exam. The minimum qualifying marks for CBT 1 and 2 for General, EWS categories is 40%, for OBC and SC is 30% and for ST category is 25%.

Will there be any negative marking in RRB NTPC  exam?

There shall be negative marking for incorrect answers in CBTs. One-third of the marks allotted for each question shall be deducted for each wrong answer.
