Selection Process

The SSC CGL exam is conducted in 2 tiers, which are further categorized into different sessions and modules.

  • Tier 1 is an objective type test in online mode.
  • Tier 2 comprises 3 papers: Paper 1 is for all the categories and Paper 2 & Paper 3 are for those Candidates who opt for JSO and AAO posts.
  • Paper 1 of Tier 2 is further divided into 3 sessions and includes 5 subjects and Data Entry Speed Test.
  • The candidates will be asked to appear for document verification & medical test, after clearing all the stages.

  • Negative marking-The negative marking of every incorrect answer is 0.50 marks and for every correct answer the 2 marks will be awarded in the Tier 1 examination.

  • Time Duration – The SSC CGL 2024 Tier 1 examination would be conducted in 60 minutes. For the Tier 2 Paper I it would be conducted in 150 minutes and Paper II and III it would be conducted in 120 minutes.
  • No. of questions- In the Tier II examination there would be a total of 100 questions. And in the Tier 2 the total number of questions would be 350 (Combined paper I, II and III).
  • Type of question-In the Tier 1 examination the questions would be objective multiple-choice questions. The Tier 2 examination would consist of Multiple-Choice Questions and Descriptive tests.
  • Mode of Exam- The mode of examination would be Computer Based test/Online.

    What is the eligibility for SSC CGL exams?
    Student with Graduation in any discipline from a recognized university/institution is eligible for SSC exam.

    How many attempts are in the SSC CGL?
    Candidates can appear for SSC CGL exam within the age limit. The SSC has not given any age restrictions for the number of attempts.

    Is it a bilingual exam?
    Except the English language test, all the other tests are conducted bilingually, i.e. English and Hindi.
