Overview

The RRB Group D is a national-level exam conducted by the Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) on behalf of the Railway Recruitment Cells (RRC).  The recruitment is conducted to select candidates for the various posts in Level-1 of the seventh CPC pay matrix such as Track Maintainer Grade-IV, Helper/Assistant in various technical departments, Assistant Pointsman, and many more.

Selection Process

The selection process of RRB Group D comprises

  • Computer Based Test (CBT)
  • Physical Efficiency Test (PET)/Physical Standard Test (PST)

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification    10th pass (OR) ITI from institutions recognised by NCVT/SCVT (or) equivalent (OR) National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by NCVT

Age Limit The age limit for all the posts is 18-33 years.

Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

For Male Candidates 

  • Should be able to lift and carry 35 kg of weight for a distance of 100 metres in 2 minutes in one chance without putting the weight down
  • Should be able to run for a distance of 1000 metres in 4 minutes and 15 seconds in one chance

For Female Candidates 

  • Should be able to lift and carry 20 kg of weight for a distance of 100 metres in 2 minutes in one chance without putting the weight down
  • Should be able to run for a distance of 1000 metres in 5 minutes and 40 seconds in one chance.

  • Mathematics     Number system, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Mensuration, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Square root, Age Calculations, Calendar & Clock, Pipes & Cistern etc. 
  • General Intelligence and Reasoning     Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation and Sufficiency, Conclusions and Decision making, Similarities and Differences, Analytical Reasoning, Classification, Directions, Statement – Arguments and Assumptions etc.
  • General Science    The syllabus under this shall cover Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences of 10th standard level (CBSE).
  • General Awareness and Current Affairs     General awareness on current affairs in Science & Technology, Sports, Culture, Personalities, Economics, Politics and any other subject of importance

Preparation Tips

  • Create a Timetable    Following a timetable is the key to success. Make a timetable and follow it diligently. Distribute your time on each section for a few hours every day. Make a timetable and draft study strategies according to your strengths and weaknesses. Make changes to it from time to time. 
  • Keep Revising    Revision is the key to ensuring that your preparation is on the right track, Once you finish studying a topic, make sure you revise it, again and again, every few days. The more you revise, the more you will retain. Also, repeated revision increases your hold on the topics allowing you to perform better and score more.
  • Time Management     Ensure that you practice in a time-bound manner. Solve many mock tests and sample papers while using a timer. Knowing how to manage your time is an essential skill needed during the exam. 
  • Practice Previous Year Papers     Practice as many RRB Group D previous year question papers as possible. Objectively evaluating your performance in these will help you analyze your strengths and weaknesses, assess your level of preparation and work on your shortcomings.

Apply Online

The steps to apply online for RRB Group D exam are given below:

  • Read all the information and instructions thoroughly before filling the application form
  • Scanned documents in JPEG Format to be kept ready before filling the application
  • Check railway-wise vacancies for the qualification and reservation category of the candidates
  • Select the railway to which candidates wish to apply
  • Click on the ‘New Registration’ link
  • Register for the exam by submitting details such as name, date of birth and father’s name, mother’s name, Aadhaar Number etc and then submit the registration form
  • Upon registration, candidates need to verify email ID and mobile number through OTP
  • Proceed with the online application by clicking on the ‘Already Registered’ button on the home page using the registration number and password
  • In Part I of the application page, candidates had to provide the details of educational qualification, community, gender, religion, Ex-Servicemen, CCAA, Minority, Economically Backward Class and Age Relaxation and other details
  • In Part II of the application page, candidates had to indicate his/her priority/preference of the posts
  • On completion of application details, candidates were redirected to the payment page using Online Net Banking/Credit Card/Debit Card/UPI and Offline Challan
  • Candidates were required to choose the exam language
  • Candidates had to fill the details of a valid photo ID card
  • Enter bank details to get the refund of fees
  • Candidates had to upload their scanned images of photograph and signature as per the format
  • SC/ST candidates were required to upload the category certificates
  • Candidates had to agree to the terms and conditions and submit the application form

FAQs

Is there any negative marking for the RRB Group D CBT Exam? 

Yes, there will be a negative marking of 1/3 marks for every wrong answer. 

What is the salary of Group D in railway during the training period?

Candidates recruited to every post are entitled to a basic salary amounting to Rs. 18000 and Rs. 22500-Rs. 25380 as gross salary. 

Are there any qualifying marks in the RRB Group D exam? 

Yes, candidates must score the minimum qualifying marks to pass the RRB Group D exam 2023. The qualifying marks for UR/ EWS/ OBC/ SC/ ST category candidates are 40/ 40/ 30/ 30/ 30 respectively. There is 2% relaxation for PWD candidates. 

How long is the training period of Railway Group D? 

RRB Group D Probation period is 2 years for the candidates who are selected for this post. Candidates will have to take the training for a period of 2 years and then will be able to start their job as an RRB Group D Officer.

Will I get travel pass for appearing in the exam?

Free sleeper class railway pass will be given to SC/ST candidates. The travel pass will be attached along with the admit card.
