National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has concluded its national conference on the rights of older persons

• The NHRC held a national conference on "Rights of Older Persons" in New Delhi on October 18th, 2024, marking its 31st Foundation Day.
• The theme of this national conference was “Assessing the structural Framework, Legal safeguard, security”.
• Discussions focused on the challenges faced by older individuals, such as financial insecurity, healthcare disparities, social isolation, and discrimination.
• The events aim was to utilize India's ageing population's potential and review social, legal, and infrastructural frameworks to ensure their active participation.
• Its chief guest was Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar.
• NHRC was setup on  October 12, 1993.

Karnataka has launched ‘Shiksha Copilot’ an AI-powered digital assistant for teachers

• ‘Shiksha Copilot’ assists teachers in creating personalized, comprehensive lesson plans, including activities, videos, and quizzes, in line with local curriculums launched on October 18, 2024.
• The ‘Shiksha Copilot’ is a part of Project VeLLM initiated by Microsoft Research India.
• Karnataka’s School Education and Literacy Minister launched this supporting 1000 government schoolteachers.
• The tool utilises Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service and Azure Cognitive Service.
• Covers classes 5 to 10 and subjects like Mathematics, Science, English, Social Science etc.
• Its aim to empower teachers to tackle multi-grade classroom challenges based on the 5Es model included Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate.

Bilateral Naval Exercise Naseem Al Bahr was held between Indo-Oman (Defence)

• The Indo-Oman bilateral naval exercise Naseem-Al-Bahr took place off the coast of Goa from October 13 - 18 2024.
• The Indian Navy, consisting of INS Trikand and Dornier Maritime Patrol Aircraft participated.
• The exercise consists of two phases: the Harbour Phase, which includes professional interactions and expert exchanges, and the Sea Phase, which includes joint maritime operations.
• The key outcomes include enhanced interoperability, enhanced collaboration, and improved mutual understanding.
• The exercise enhanced naval ties and operational cohesion between the Indian Navy and the Royal Navy of Oman.
