India became new Joinee of International Medical Device Regulators Forum

World Bank launched the First Edition of Business Ready Index

44th Codex Committee Meeting joined by India

  • India participated in the 44th session of the Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses (CCNFSDU) held in Dresden, Germany, from October 2-6, 2024.
  •  During the session, India offered key insights on food safety, nutrition, and dietary standards.
  • One major focus was updating guidelines on probiotics and nutrient reference values for young children.
  • India suggested a combined ‘Nutrient Reference Value’ (NRV) for children aged 6-36 months, averaging the nutrient needs of two sub-groups, which the committee approved.
  • India also advocated for revising outdated FAO/WHO probiotic guidelines from 2001 and 2002, a proposal supported by countries like Canada, Chile, and New Zealand.
  • India successfully opposed the European Union's proposal for sensory testing of sweetness in follow-up formulas, citing a lack of scientific evidence. The committee deferred the issue.

Coco Gauff won China Open

  •  US tennis star Coco Gauff secured victory in the 2024 China Open final on October 6, 2024.
  • The 20-year-old American, ranked 6th in the world and the reigning US Open champion, defeated Karolina Muchová of the Czech Republic 6-1, 6-3 in just 1 hour and 16 minutes.
  • This marks her second title of 2024 and eighth overall. Coco Gauff became the youngest China Open champion in 14 years and the second American to win the tournament, after Serena Williams, who won in 2004 and 2013.
  • With this victory, her finals record improves to 8-1, and she holds the distinction of being the first player to go 7-0 in hard-court finals in the Open era.

 

2nd Individual gold won by Divanshi in ISSF Junior World Championship

  • Indian pistol shooter Divanshi won her second individual gold medal in the women's 25m standard pistol event at the ISSF Junior World Championship in Peru on October 6, 2024.
  • She achieved a score of 564 out of 600, while fellow Indian shooter Parisha Gupta score 559 to took silver. Manvi Jain took the bronze with 557, making it India's first-ever clean sweep in this event.
  • Shikha Chaudhary narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth with 554.
  •  India continued to lead the medal tally with 21 medals, including 13 gold, 2 silver, and 6 bronze. Norway followed in second place with 10 medals.

  • Nepal's President Ramchandra Paudel appointed Prakash Man Singh Raut as the new Chief Justice of the country on October 6, 2024.
  • President Ramchandra Paudel administered the oath of office to Chief Justice Prakash Raut at a ceremony held at Sheetal Niwas, the President’s Office.
  • His appointment is in accordance with Article 129, Clause 2 of the Constitution of Nepal. The Constitutional Council had convened on September 16 and recommended him for the position.
