• TIME Magazine published its list of the 'World's Greatest Places,' featuring 100 remarkable global destinations as of July 28, 2024.
• Among the highlighted places were three Indian locations: the Museum of Solutions in Mumbai, Manam Chocolate in Hyderabad, and the restaurant Naar in Himachal Pradesh.
• These sites were recognized in the "Places to Visit" category, showcasing a diverse array of establishments, including hotels, cruises, restaurants, attractions, museums, and parks.
• The list, which previously included 50 cities, now celebrates 100 unique destinations worldwide, each excelling in its field.

World’s 10 Most Dangerous Cities for Tourists of 2024

• Forbes has published a list identifying the world's 10 most dangerous cities for tourists, on July 28, 2024.
• This ranking is based on factors such as a high crime rate, violence, political instability, and economic difficulties.
• Forbes Adviser assessed 60 international cities, using seven key metrics to evaluate the safety and risk levels for tourists.
• This comprehensive analysis aimed to identify both the most hazardous and the least risky cities for travelers worldwide.

Women’s Asia Cup Title won by Sri Lanka

• Sri Lanka Women won their first T20 Asia Cup by defeating India by 8 wickets in the final held at Dambulla on July 28, 2024.
• India set a target of 166 runs, but Sri Lanka chased it down successfully with significant contributions from captain Chamari Athapaththu, Harshita Samarawickrama, and Kavisha Dilhari.
• Chamari Athapaththu scored 61 before being dismissed in the 12th over.
• Earlier, India batted first after winning the toss and posted a total of 165 for 6 in 20 overs, thanks to a half-century from Smriti Mandhana and useful innings from Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh.
• Harshita Madavi was named Player of the Match, while Chamari Athapaththu received the Player of the Series award.

Manu Bhaker

• Manu Bhaker secured the bronze medal in the women's 10m air pistol event, as the first Indian woman to win an Olympic shooting medal at the Paris Olympic Games on July 28, 2024.
• This was also India's first medal in any sport at Paris 2024 and the fifth Olympic medal in shooting for the country.
• India had previously won shooting medals in three consecutive Olympics from Athens 2004 to London 2012 but had not won in the next two Games.
• The 22-year-old Bhaker scored 221.7 in the final, finishing third. Oh Ye Jin from the Republic of Korea won gold with a record 243.2, while her compatriot Yeji Kim took silver with 241.3.

Mandisa Maya

• South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Mandisa Maya as the nation's first female Chief Justice as of July 28, 2024, effective from September 1, 2024.
• Currently serving as Deputy Chief Justice,  Mandisa Maya is a trailblazer, having been the first Black woman appointed to the Supreme Court of Appeal.
•  She previously held the role of Judge President at the Supreme Court of Appeal, South Africa’s second-highest court, before advancing to the Constitutional Court.
• Her career includes milestones such as being the first Black woman to become a judge there and the first woman to serve as Deputy President and then President of the court.

Manoj Mittal

• Manoj Mittal has assumed the role of Chairman and Managing Director of the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) following his appointment by the Government on July 28, 2024.
• Manoj Mittal brings a wealth of experience to the position, with a career spanning over 33 years in the financial services industry.
•  Before his new role at SIDBI, he served as the Managing Director of the Industrial Finance Corporation of India (IFCI).
•  His extensive background includes previous roles as MD and CEO of IFCI, as well as Deputy Managing Director of SIDBI.

Bihar Police to Roll Out Unified Whatsapp Number

• The Bihar police on July 28, 2024 announced the upcoming launch of a unified WhatsApp number for public complaints related to crime and other issues.
• This initiative aims to enhance transparency and public friendliness, as stated by DGP Bihar, RS Bhatti, during a workshop in Patna on three new criminal laws.
• The DGP emphasized the increased use of social media by Bihar police for better grievance redressal and accessibility.
• Over the past year and a half, the Bihar police's social media following has grown to around 1.2 million, ranking the state among the top five in the country for police social media engagement.
