  •  The law, with 17 parts, allows for the euthanasia of dogs deemed sick or aggressive, aiming to curb dog attacks and rabies spread.
  •  The government, led by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, argues that the stray dog population poses a growing issue, necessitating immediate measures.
  •  They plan to capture stray dogs, provide shelter, promote adoption, and euthanize those deemed dangerous.
  • However, opposition parties and animal rights activists question the morality and effectiveness of the law.

Long-Term Capital Gains Tax

  • The Union Budget for 2024–2025 brought significant changes to the long-term capital gains (LTCG) tax system, eliminating the indexation benefit as of July 29, 2024.
  • This decision led to confusion and concern among taxpayers, as indexation adjusts an asset’s acquisition price for inflation, providing a more accurate calculation of capital gains or losses upon sale.
  •  With the removal of indexation, gains may appear inflated, potentially increasing tax liabilities.
  • However, the LTCG tax rate has been reduced from 20% to 12.5% for assets like gold and real estate.
  • For assets acquired before April 1, 2001, the fair market value on that date will be used as the acquisition cost to ease the tax burden on inherited properties.
  • The government argues that these changes simplify the tax system and could benefit most taxpayers.
