Approval for the National Maritime Heritage Complex at Lothal, Gujarat
Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the development of the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) at Lothal, Gujarat. On October 10, 2024.
The NMHC aims to celebrate and preserve India’s 4500-year maritime heritage, showcasing its role in ancient maritime trade and culture.
The project has two phases, with Phase 1A already 60% complete, and Phase 1B focusing on a lighthouse museum and thematic exhibitions, expected by 2025.
Lothal, known for its ancient dockyards during the Indus Valley Civilization, is a symbolic site for India’s rich maritime legacy.
Part of a broader initiative led by PM Narendra Modi, the complex will be a world-class destination for tourism, research, and maritime conservation, putting India’s maritime history on the global stage.

21st ASEAN-India Summit Held
