BJP-led NDA Secured Absolute Majority in Lok Sabha Elections

  • In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP-led NDA won 292 seats, secured an absolute majority on June 4, 2024.
  • All 543 Lok Sabha seats have results announced. Just the BJP has secured 240 seats. JD(U) has 12 seats, and Telugu Desam has 16.
  • The I.N.D.I.A. bloc has won 233 seats, 18 seats in the lower chamber of Parliament have been gained by others. 99 seats were won by the Congress.
  • Trinamool Congress won 29 seats, while the Samajwadi Party won 37. DMK was able to secure 22 seats.
  •  BJP leader and PM Narendra Modi, who is from Varanasi, Union Ministers Amit Shah from Gandhinagar, Om Birla from Kota, Arjun Ram Meghwal from Bikaner, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat from Jodhpur, and Jyotiraditya M. Scindia from Guna are among the notable candidates who have won.

 

India Created a World Record with 64.2 Crore Voters

  • According to Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, 64.2 crore people had cast ballots in India's Lok Sabha elections, setting a new global record.
  • That the figure is 1.5 times greater than the combined votes of the G7 nations (the US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Canada).
  • According to him, 31.2 crore women voted in the Lok Sabha elections, making it the largest number of female voters in history.
  •  In response to a query about holding assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Rajiv Kumar stated that the polling process in J&K will shortly be initiated by the commission.

  • According to Simon Stiell, the head of the UN Climate Programme global warming is expected to reach 2.7 °C, and there would be significant challenges in limiting it to 1.5°.
  • Simonss Stiell warned that without international cooperation organized by the UN, global warming would likely be unavoidable for the majority of humankind.
  •  It is anticipated to establish the climate negotiations' agenda for this year and initiate talks on a new financing target to replace the current one of $100 billion annually.
  • The purpose of the new financial objective is to channel greater funds toward urgently needed climate action in developing countries.

 

Palestinian State Recognized by Slovenia

  • Following a vote in parliament with 52 votes in favour, Slovenia officially recognized Palestine as an independent state on June 4, 2024.
  • Slovenia is now in the same category as Norway, Spain, and Ireland—all of which have recognized Palestine as of late.
  •  Israel was vehemently opposed to Slovenia's move, but Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon of Slovenia welcomed it as a positive step and emphasized the necessity of a 2-state solution to guarantee long-term peace in the Middle East.
  •  When Slovenia's government decided to recognize Palestine, the process got underway. After that, the resolution was sent to Parliament for a complete vote.
  •  The ongoing confrontation between Israel and Hamas, particularly the recent attacks on Rafah, has had a significant influence on politics in Slovenia.

 

‘Bridge of National Unity in Hungary’

  • A 700-m pedestrian bridge named the Bridge of National Unity was inaugurated on
    June 4, 2024.
  • This cable-stayed bridge, supported by 6 cable ropes, is one of the longest pedestrian bridges globally.
  • It follows the Czech Dolni Morava bridge, which stretches 721 meters. Constructed for four billion HUF (10 million euros) from the national budget, it did not use any European Union funds.
  • The bridge, connecting two nearby hills with a glass floor in the middle, is expected to enhance tourism in northeastern Hungary, near the Slovakia border.
  • The entrance fee is set at 5,000 HUF (12 euros) per person.

Health Insurance Claims are Streamlined using NHCX Platforms

  • A digital platform called NHCX was created by the National Health Authority (NHA) and the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare as of June 4, 2024.

Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim Won BJP and SKM

  • The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) emerged as the obvious winners In the just-ended legislative assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim, respectively.
  • The Election Commission of India reported that the SKM won a stunning 31 out of 32 seats in Sikkim and that the BJP won an astounding 46 out of 60 seats in Arunachal Pradesh.
  • Under the direction of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) pulled off an incredible comeback in Sikkim, winning a resounding majority with 31 of the 32 assembly seats.
  • Compared to the 17 seats the party held in the previous assembly, this was a major increase. 
  • The BJP came back to power for a third term in a row with the victory in Arunachal Pradesh, which was a historic moment.
  •  Between 2019 - 2024, their vote share increased significantly, from 50.9% - 54.8%. The BJP had won 41 seats in the previous assembly election, which took place in 2019.

  • In the meantime, Indore-based BJP candidate Shankar Lalwani is expected to break all previous records with a victory margin of about 7 lakh votes.
  •  Gopalganj in Bihar currently holds the record for the highest NOTA in the nation. NOTA received 51660 votes in the 2019 election.
  •  In the May 13 polling in Indore, out of a total of 25 lakh 27 thousand votes were cast and 61.75% of people voted.
